1,500 Cinema and Television Professionals Pledge to Boycott Zionists
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and New Arab, over 1,500 actors and film industry workers, including Olivia Colman and Mark Ruffalo, signed an open letter released on Monday. They committed not to work with Israeli cinematic institutions involved in the “genocide” in Gaza.
the letter published in The Guardian states: “we pledge not to participate in films affiliated with Israeli cinema institutions-including festivals, cinemas, and production companies-that play a role in the genocide and apartheid against the palestinian people.”
The signatories include several British and American actors and also filmmakers such as Ken Loach and Yorgos Lanthimos.
Organized by the group “Film Activists for Palestine,” the letter draws inspiration from prominent filmmakers who refused to screen their works during South Africa’s apartheid era as part of a broader cultural boycott.
It adds: ”At this critical moment when many governments enable the massacre in Gaza, we must do everything possible to resist complicity in this relentless atrocity.”
The institutions targeted for boycott include any individuals or groups involved in “whitewashing or justifying genocide and apartheid,” or those collaborating with Zionist occupiers.
The commitment is backed by numerous high-profile figures who have received academy Awards, Emmys, and Palme d’Or honors.
