Sudden and Mysterious Expulsion of U.S. Diplomats in Syrian Affairs
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Reuters revealed in an exclusive report that five informed sources confirmed the abrupt removal of several top U.S. diplomats working on Syria in recent days.
Reuters states this growth comes as Washington seeks to merge the Syrian Democratic Forces, known as America’s allies, with the Jolani regime based in Damascus.
The diplomats assigned to the “Syria regional framework” (SRP)-an unofficial U.S. depiction operating remotely from Istanbul-reported directly to Tom Barrack, President Donald Trump’s longtime adviser and special envoy for Syrian affairs.
One U.S. diplomatic source who spoke with Reuters said that several SRP staff members were informed their assignments were ending as part of a team reorganization.
The source added that these dismissals would not impact U.S. policy toward Syria and stressed that the decision was not driven by political disagreements between staff and Barrack or the White House.
The sources-including two Western diplomats and two officials based in the United States-confirmed these sudden removals occurred late last week and characterized them as involuntary actions.
