China Issues Warning in Response to Controversial Comments by Trump
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Rosyia Al-Yawm via Mehr News agency, China’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Friday emphasizing the need to respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
The ministry warned about the consequences of escalating tensions and conflicts in the region, noting that no nation supports such developments.
A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed their respect for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and independence, stressing that the country’s future should be determined by its own people.
This statement was made in response to remarks delivered yesterday by Donald Trump.
On Thursday,at a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the end of his visit to Britain,Trump said: “Bagram is one of the largest airbases in the world. We gave it away to them for free.Incidentally,we are trying to get it back.”
He added: “We are trying to reclaim this base because the Taliban need our help. We want that base. As you no, one reason we want this base is because it is just an hour away from where China builds its nuclear weapons.”
Trump criticized former U.S. President Joe Biden over America’s controversial withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 and claimed that this exit handed over American weapons and other military assets-including bases-to the Taliban.
