Resolution to Extend Iran Sanctions Waivers Fails in Security Council Vote
Today’s UN Security Council meeting failed to pass the resolution extending Iran sanctions relief.
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, reported that an Al Mayadeen correspondent said nine Security Council members voted against activating the snapback mechanism to reinstate sanctions on Iran. Only four members supported it, while two abstained.
The Al Mayadeen correspondent also noted that South Korea’s draft resolution was rejected by the Security Council, meaning the snapback mechanism will remain inactive and sanctions on Iran will not be reinstated.
Given the procedures of the snapback mechanism, this means the resolution to continue lifting Iran sanctions was not adopted.
