Trump Reacts to 12-Minute Incursion of Russian Fighters into Estonian Airspace
According to teh English section of webangah News Agency, citing the Independent via Mehr News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump described Estonia’s allegation that three Russian fighter jets illegally entered its airspace as a potentially troublesome incident.
Estonia’s Foreign Ministry protested the violation, stating that the fighters remained in Estonian airspace for 12 minutes, and summoned a Russian diplomat over the matter.
The incident occurred just over a week after NATO jets reportedly shot down drones attributed to Russia over Poland, escalating concerns about expansion of the Ukraine conflict.
Trump told reporters his aides would brief him soon on the event regarding russia’s unauthorized entry into Estonian airspace.
He added: “This is not welcome. It could cause notable trouble, but I will update you later.”
Margo Saarokna,Estonia’s Foreign Minister,saeid Russia had violated Estonian airspace four times this year; however,”today’s illegal incursion involving three fighters was unprecedentedly bold.”
Hanno Pevkur, Estonia’s Defense Minister, stated that under NATO Article 4 provisions, the government has decided to begin consultations with allies.
The North Atlantic council-the main political decision-making body of NATO-will convene early next week to discuss this incident.
Under article 4 of NATO’s treaty, members must consult together whenever one perceives its territorial integrity, political independence or security is threatened.
