Zelensky to Meet Trump Next Week
according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Kyiv Post, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that next week, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New york, he will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss Russia’s intensified attacks against Kyiv.
Zelensky stated that Russia launched one of it’s largest airstrikes against Ukraine last night, firing 40 missiles and deploying approximately 580 drones, resulting in at least three deaths and dozens of injuries.
Referring to his upcoming meeting with Trump, Zelensky added that they would discuss security guarantees for Ukraine and further sanctions against Russia.
Ukraine has emphasized its need for security guarantees from Western allies to prevent further Russian assaults. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that any deployment of Western forces in Ukraine is unacceptable and that Western troops on Ukrainian soil would be considered legitimate targets by the Russian military under any pretext.
The U.S. efforts to end the conflict have so far been unsuccessful, as Russia has effectively dismissed any talks between Putin and Zelensky.
Zelensky said: “We are ready to meet with Putin. I have spoken about this-both bilateral talks and trilateral meetings involving Trump-but he [Putin] is not ready. If a leaders’ meeting and ceasefire are not possible, then we expect sanctions.”
Zelensky alleged that during the recent Russian airstrike on Ukraine, “a missile carrying cluster munitions directly hit an apartment building in downtown Dnipro.”
He also shared images showing vehicles and a building ablaze while rescue teams were evacuating an individual to safety.
Previously, Trump stated that “Europe must stop buying oil from Russia. Zelensky will have to reach an agreement because NATO countries and the European Union continue purchasing Russian oil.”
