Guterres: No Justification for Collective Punishment of the Palestinian People
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Al Jazeera Qatar, UN Secretary-General António Guterres addressed a two-state conference co-hosted by France and saudi Arabia in New York. he said there is no justification for what happened on October 7, 2023, nor for the collective punishment of the Palestinian people. “We demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza,” he emphasized.
Guterres added that there is no excuse for what is happening in the West Bank or for continuing settlement construction. He stressed that commitments to the two-state solution must be reaffirmed before it is too late.
The Secretary-general challenged those blocking the two-state path to answer a essential question: “What is the choice?” He stated, “The establishment of a Palestinian state is not a reward; it is a right.”
He warned that without the two-state solution, peace in the Middle East will remain unattainable. This solution aligns with international law and enjoys broad support from both the international community and the General assembly.
Guterres underscored that achieving this outcome requires arduous decisions and courageous leadership from all parties involved.
