Uruguay Foreign Ministry Issues Statement on International Day of Peace

The statement continued: Today’s world faces growing uncertainty and escalating conflicts.Global military expenditures have seen their highest annual increase as the end of the Cold War. This year has recorded the greatest number of interstate conflicts since World War II. These indicators highlight important challenges confronting the international system, despite having available tools, as both the credibility of international law and humanity’s core values are under threat.
Uruguay’s foreign ministry added that it remains committed at various levels to cooperating with international efforts aimed at achieving peace. Strengthening and upholding multilateral forums-basic pillars for maintaining peace and international security-has been a consistent priority for Uruguay. The country’s uninterrupted participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations over the past 35 years, combined with ongoing support for regional dialog initiatives and its new policy focused on capacity-building in conflict mediation and preventive diplomacy, exemplify this enduring commitment within its foreign policy framework.
