Day One: Highlights and Speeches from the 80th UN General Assembly
Mehre International News Agency: From tuesday, September 23 to Saturday, September 27, world leaders and heads of UN member states will meet for one week to discuss major global challenges. Key topics include peacebuilding, sustainable growth, human rights protection, gender equality, artificial intelligence governance, combating infectious diseases and mental disorders, and also the impacts of climate change.
This weeklong event commemorates the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and carries the theme “Together: 80 years and Beyond for Peace, Development and human Rights.”
Representatives from all 193 UN member states-including observers from the Vatican and Palestine-and the European Union will deliver speeches throughout the week.
the addresses will be given by country leaders,government officials,and international delegations. High-level meetings alongside hundreds of bilateral talks and thematic side events are scheduled from September 23 to 29-with a planned recess on Sunday.
Opening Session
The assembly’s opening session features speeches by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and Annalena Baerbock-the President of this session’s General Assembly.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will deliver the first speech among global leaders-a tradition honoring Brazil’s historic role. This custom dates back to when Brazilian Foreign Minister Oswaldo aranha presided over both special sessions in 1947.

Nearly thirty speakers are expected on day one including presidents from Argentina, Vietnam, Jordan, Qatar, Poland, Serbia, France Turkey among others. On day two roughly forty speakers will address delegates-among them presidents from Ukraine Finland and Slovakia- with sessions continuing through Saturday.
Today Tuesday Masoud Pezeshkian departed Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport en route to New York City to attend this year’s annual UN General Assembly meeting.
Pezeshkian travels with his delegation intending not only to participate in discussions but also hold meetings with European heads of state regional representatives as well as members of BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Organization during his visit.
