Venezuela Holds Large Military Drill Amid Tensions with the U.S
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Arabiya, Venezuela held a major military drill yesterday after American warships positioned themselves near its Caribbean coast.
Earlier, Caracas had described the U.S. deployment as a military threat. the exercises took place in northwestern and northeastern Venezuela and involved moving military equipment to coastal areas, firing artillery towards the sea, and other maneuvers along the coastline. Venezuelan forces also deployed Russian missiles in the region.
Yesterday,NBC News reported-citing four informed sources including two American officials-that the U.S. is preparing for attacks on Venezuelan territory.
According to this report, any potential U.S. strikes against Venezuela woudl be justified by efforts to combat drug trafficking networks. Insider sources indicated thes operations could begin within weeks.
NBC News added that although former President Trump has not yet approved these attacks, they are expected to escalate tensions between his management and Venezuela. The plan reportedly focuses on drone strikes targeting members of drug cartels.
Previously, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced that popular forces have been deployed nationwide to counter any threats from American aggressors.
