Mazlom Abedi Advances to Seize Top Military Position in Damascus
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Al-Youm, US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) aim to secure the position of Syria’s Minister of Defense.
Ilham Ahmed, Head of Foreign Relations for the Autonomous Administration in Northeast Syria, revealed a proposal that would appoint Mazloum Abdi, commander of the SDF, or another senior SDF officer as Minister of Defense or Chief of Staff of the Syrian Army.
She added that negotiations with Damascus remain at the stage of exchanging viewpoints, and technical committee meetings have yet to take place.
Ahmed identified two main points of disagreement impacting future relations between the SDF and Syria’s new army: mechanisms for integrating military structures and whether the future political system will be centralized or decentralized.
She also noted that while there is a proposal for mazloum Abdi or a senior SDF officer to assume the role of defense minister or army chief, Damascus has not yet responded to this idea.
