U.S. Secretary of State Claims Following Snapback Enforcement
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Washington’s European allies and the US itself of hostile actions against Iran through activating the “snapback mechanism,” while claiming that Washington still expects to reach an agreement with iran concerning its nuclear program.
Rubio stated: “Sanctions and other United Nations restrictions related to Iran resumed at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.”
He continued: “president Donald Trump has clearly said that diplomacy remains an option on the table, and reaching an agreement is still the best outcome for both the Iranian people and the world. To achieve this, Iran must engage in direct negotiations in good faith without wasting time or creating ambiguity.”
Earlier, under pressure from the United States, the UN security Council rejected a draft resolution submitted by Russia and China aimed at extending Resolution 2231 supporting the nuclear deal with Iran.
Previously, Britain, Germany, and France accused the Islamic Republic of violating the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) while ignoring America’s unilateral withdrawal from it in 2018 as well as European violations. Aligning themselves with Washington’s “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran, they initiated a 30-day process activating the snapback mechanism.
