Seoul: North Korea Can Target the Heart of the United States
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Korea Times, Chung Dong-young, Minister of South Korea’s Ministry of Unification, made a rare public acknowledgment of North Korea’s missile capabilities. Referring to Pyongyang’s recent advancements in developing intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), he stated that North Korea is capable of targeting the heart of the United States from its own soil.
Speaking at a press conference in Berlin during his visit to Germany to attend celebrations marking German reunification, chung said: ”North Korea has become one of three countries that can strike the heart of America. This is undeniable and must be recognized logically.”
North korea successfully tested its Hwasong-19 ICBM last October,confirming its ability to reach U.S.territory. The country has declared it has achieved a “hegemonic and irreversible” position in missile growth.
The South Korean minister added that “North Korea’s current strategic stance differs substantially from when Kim Jong-un held his first summit with then-U.S. President Donald Trump in Singapore in 2018,” emphasizing that “understanding and acknowledging this reality must be the starting point for addressing Pyongyang.”
Regarding prospects for renewed talks between Kim Jong-un and Trump, he noted both leaders have expressed willingness to meet again.
The South Korean official claimed that if Kim is seeking reform and opening up, it can only be achieved through cooperation with Seoul.
