Severe Typhoon Matmo Hits Southern China + Video
Chinese sources report on the massive Matmo typhoon in southern China and evacuation efforts underway.
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency from Sputnik, Chinese media announced that a powerful typhoon has swept through southern China.
Reports indicate that wind speeds have reached 42 meters per second. Authorities in Hainan and Guangdong provinces have relocated approximately 300,000 residents to safer areas.
As Typhoon Matmo intensified, Guangdong province officials elevated their emergency response to the highest level.
The Guangdong flood control headquarters raised its alert to level One on sunday morning.
By Saturday evening, a total of 151,352 people, including 9,916 from coastal regions, had already been evacuated.
