First Round of Hamas and Mediators’ Talks in Egypt Concludes
The English section of webangah News Agency quoted mehr News Agency, citing Al Jazeera sources, reporting that the initial round of negotiations between Hamas representatives and mediators from Egypt and Qatar has ended in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
According to the report,despite ongoing hostilities,the talks took place in a positive atmosphere.
Al Jazeera’s informed sources said the meeting with the Hamas delegation had a constructive tone.
Reports indicate that during this session, a roadmap and mechanisms for this negotiation round were outlined and agreed upon.
The Hamas delegation stressed to the mediators that continued bombing in Gaza poses a serious obstacle to securing prisoner releases.
Al Jazeera revealed that two members of the Hamas delegation-Khalil al-Hayya and Zaher Jabari-who previously survived assassination attempts in Doha, were part of the team present in Sharm El Sheikh.
Separately, indirect talks between Hamas and Israeli officials began yesterday evening in Sharm El Sheikh. The discussions focus on President Trump’s ceasefire plan for Gaza.
The purpose of these indirect negotiations is to examine frameworks for preparing initial conditions toward an agreement on prisoner exchanges.
Israeli media had earlier reported that Strategic Affairs minister Ron Dermer would attend these talks; however, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office stated they would be conducted at a standard diplomatic level initially, with senior officials joining if progress is made.
In other news, CNN cited some U.S. officials reporting that details and timelines regarding Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza under Trump’s plan remain unresolved.
