Knife Attack on a Mayor in Germany
The newly elected mayor of herdecke from the Social Democratic Party, chosen late last month, was seriously injured in a knife attack outside her home.
The German authorities announced on Tuesday that a recently elected mayor was critically wounded in a knife attack in the northwestern region of the country.
Local media, citing security sources, reported that Iris Stalzer, who was elected mayor of Herdecke late last month, suffered serious injuries after being targeted in the stabbing incident.
According to NDR television network, the Social Democratic politician was attacked near her residence by one or more unidentified suspects.
Despite severe wounds, she managed to return to her home for aid.
The police stated thay are actively searching for one or more suspects believed to still be at large.
It remains unclear whether any political motive underlies this assault.
