UNICEF Shocks at Global Inaction Despite Nearly 20,000 Child Deaths in Gaza
The spokesperson for UNICEF stated that nearly 20,000 children have died in the Gaza strip, including 1,000 newborns. They expressed shock at the global community’s failure to act.A third of all births in Gaza are premature, and there is a critical shortage of neonatal care equipment.
They added that bans on food and medical devices essential for premature infants have worsened conditions for children and newborns. Israeli authorities have ordered all residents of Gaza City-including thousands of children-to move south. However, residents from northern Gaza do not know where to seek refuge as displacement areas remain unsafe.
The UNICEF spokesperson also highlighted that ongoing multiple displacements increase psychological trauma and anxiety among children. Everyone knows that rebuilding Gaza depends on nurturing an educated generation. Education shapes the future.
