The EU foreign policy chief addressed the ceasefire agreement in Gaza today,Thursday. According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera via Mehr News Agency, she described the agreement on Gaza’s first phase of ceasefire as notable progress.
Without mentioning Israel’s past record regarding unfulfilled obligations, she added, “this agreement is a major diplomatic achievement and a genuine opportunity to end a devastating war and secure the release of all prisoners. The European Union will make every effort to support implementation of this accord.”
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement previously issued a statement reacting to the ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal in Gaza. It emphasized that what was achieved was not a gift from anyone.
The statement continued: “While we do not deny arab and international efforts, we stress the immense sacrifices made by the Palestinian people and the courage and heroism shown by our fighters on the battlefield. They confronted enemy forces with unprecedented bravery-without which resistance could not stand as a strong contender at negotiation tables.”
