Russian foreign Minister Warns That Potential Delivery of Tomahawk Missiles to⁤ Ukraine ⁢Would Severely Damage Prospects⁤ for Russia-U.S. Relations Normalization

According to the English section of webangah⁢ News ⁢agency, citing Sputnik ⁢adn Mehr News ‌Agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Wednesday ⁣that Moscow is awaiting a U.S. response to the proposed New START treaty and hopes ‍to ⁤receive it before the current agreement ​expires.⁢ He added ‍that negotiations with Washington‍ on ‌this matter are ongoing.

Lavrov further noted that the recent‌ declaration ⁤aiming to resolve the Gaza situation⁤ serves as a clear example ​that could be applied in ⁢the ⁢context of Ukraine. Responding to reports from the Financial ⁢Times about‌ Washington providing intelligence to Kyiv for attacks against Russia, he said Moscow has questioned U.S. officials on this ⁤issue.

He confirmed ongoing ⁢communications ⁢between Russia and the United States through‌ various channels​ covering multiple topics but said no plans exist yet for high-level ⁤meetings.

Lavrov criticized U.S. special envoy Kurt Volker,⁣ accusing him of ‍pushing for provocative ​actions aimed at‌ escalating ⁤conflict in Ukraine. He described Vitkoff⁢ as a reasonable individual and expressed hope that Vitkoff would ⁤apply⁤ his demonstrated talents in Ukraine as he did in the Middle East.

The⁣ Russian⁢ minister stated Moscow is waiting for a response to ‌its proposals regarding updates to the⁢ Istanbul process ‍concerning Ukraine but noted ⁤complete silence so far.He clarified that Russia has not requested any meeting with Washington ⁢over concerns about transferring Tomahawk ⁢missiles to Kyiv.

Highlighting progress achieved during talks​ in Alaska, Lavrov​ said Moscow is ready at any ⁢time-and across all levels-to discuss specific issues with the United States.

The possible delivery of​ Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would​ seriously harm prospects for normalizing relations between Russia and Washington, he warned.

Lavrov added ⁣that former President Donald Trump’s ⁣comments about sending Tomahawk missiles do not affect discussions held during Alaska talks between ​Trump and President Vladimir Putin, whose ⁤outcomes still await a definitive‍ U.S. response, ‍according⁤ to Lavrov.

regarding global currency stability, Lavrov remarked ⁣it remains tough⁣ to⁤ predict what will happen⁤ with the dollar; during his tenure in ​office, Trump had yet to take effective measures⁣ restoring ‍confidence in it.
