Specialized Session: The World in Transition in West Asia and Transatlantic Relations
On october 5, 2025, an academic session titled “A New Face of a World in Transition: West Asia and Transatlantic Relations” was held by the conference secretariat with cooperation from Allameh Tabataba’i University’s Faculty of Law and Political science.
Dr. Asghar Keyvan Hosseini and Dr. Hamid Hakim served as main speakers analyzing recent developments between Europe and America alongside signs indicating Washington’s hegemonic decline in West Asia.
Dr. Keyvan Hosseini pointed to the Ukraine crisis and Trump-era repercussions as factors trapping Europe in a “commitment trap” vis-à-vis America. He emphasized that Europe’s strategic confusion lies between loyalty to Washington and efforts toward defense autonomy.
Following this analysis, Dr. hakim discussed regional conditions highlighting America’s diminished influence across military, economic, diplomatic, and discursive spheres; he identified emerging regional multipolarity as a key consequence.
In concluding remarks,Dr. Alireza Kouhkan referred to economic and diplomatic data underscoring that “the process of global order transformation has begun,” urging Iran to strategically align itself with emerging powers to reinforce its position within this new order.
Compulsory Hegemony & America’s Decline
the specialized session titled “Compulsory Hegemony & America’s Decline” was hosted by the Secretariat along with Ayatollah Boroujerdi University (RA).
This pre-conference event took place Wednesday morning October 7 from 10 am to noon at Ayatollah Boroujerdi University (RA), attended by faculty members and students. Its primary objective was academic analysis exploring “compulsory hegemony” conceptually while examining its relationship with American decline across political, economic, and cultural domains.
Session secretary Dr. Mahmoud Alipour Gorji - associate professor at Ayatollah Boroujerdi University’s Political Science Department - stated that despite incomplete academic assimilation nationally regarding this topic: “These gatherings aim for scholarly inquiry leading toward appropriate conclusions.”
Main speakers Dr.Rashid Rokabian and Dr. Mehdi Mohammadiania-associate professors at Ayatollah Boroujerdi University’s Political Science Department-presented their views during this meeting.
Dr. Rokabian began by defining compulsory hegemony as a form of international dominance wherein the ruling power (America) maintains supremacy primarily through coercive means compelling other states’ submission.
He contrasted it against consent-based hegemony describing how since the 1990s U.S policy leaned heavily towards exerting global dominance via forceful instruments-including military interventions (“military strikes”), economic sanctions (“sanctions”), political coups (“coups”).
