Lebanese Prime Minister: Maintaining Strongest Relations with Iran Is Crucial for Us

LBN Prime Minister Nawaf Salam told Al Mayadeen Online that Lebanon remains committed to UN Resolution 1701 alongside stopping Israeli aggressions against the country. He affirmed continued efforts to end Israel’s attacks, ensure its full withdrawal, and secure the release of Lebanese prisoners.
Salam highlighted a significant global shift today in both the number of countries recognizing Palestine and public opinion on the issue.
He added that implementing the Taif Agreement’s principle of state monopoly over weapons should have occurred decades ago. “Our goal is national reconstruction, which cannot be built on two separate armies,” he said.
Salam acknowledged Hezbollah’s sacrifices, stating that without their comprehensive resistance-both historically and presently-the liberation of southern Lebanon would not have been possible.
Regarding Iran, he stressed Lebanon’s commitment to maintaining strong relations based on mutual respect and non-interference.
