Morgan Ortagus met with Lebanon’s president and parliament speaker to discuss security and military issues.

Morgan Ortagus, the U.S.envoy to Lebanon, ⁤held talks with President Joseph Aoun regarding the Lebanese army’s plan known as ⁢the “monopoly on arms,” according to the English section of webangah News Agency, ‍citing Al-Ahed via Mehr News Agency.

During the meeting, Ortagus deliberately ⁢declined to allow journalists’ cameras inside. She signaled that her role in Lebanon ⁤was limited to military and security matters until⁣ the arrival of a new U.S. ambassador in Beirut, setting ⁤political issues aside⁤ for now.

Ortagus also met ⁢with Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, to discuss developments in⁢ southern Lebanon.

Al-Ahed reported that Ortagus presented Berri with two options: direct‍ negotiations with Israel or indirect talks concerning southern border issues.

Berri responded by affirming that⁣ a follow-up committee is‌ tasked with implementing ceasefire decisions and mutual agreements. He stressed that Lebanon fulfills its obligations and remains committed to⁤ these decisions. What remains necessary is obligating Israel-the enemy-to abide by the agreement.

Sources ⁢from Ain al-Tineh‍ described the meeting as positive. Contrary⁤ to earlier threats circulating thru local media and⁣ regional satellite networks⁣ before this‍ encounter, constructive ‌dialog took ⁤place between both ‌parties.
