Reuters: Afghanistan and Pakistan Agree to Resume Peace Talks
according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, informed sources announced today that Afghanistan and Pakistan will restart their peace negotiations in Istanbul. This comes after Islamabad declared yesterday that the talks had failed.
Two sources said Islamabad and Kabul have agreed to Turkey’s request to resume discussions. Negotiating teams from both countries are now in Istanbul to ensure recent border clashes-which resulted in dozens of casualties-do not resume.
One source, a Pakistani security official, stated that Islamabad will emphasize its primary demand during the talks: for Afghanistan to take action against militants who allegedly use its territory as a sanctuary to plan attacks against pakistan.
Islamabad accuses the Afghan interim government (Taliban) of harboring the terrorist group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an allegation Kabul denies.
