UNIFIL: Israel Violated Lebanon Ceasefire Agreement 9,400 Times
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) stated yesterday that since the ceasefire with Hezbollah was established about a year ago, it has recorded more than 9,400 violations by Israel. this facts was reported by webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Xinhua.
UNIFIL spokesperson Tilak Bucharil warned of the fragile situation along the border, telling xinhua that since the cessation of hostilities agreement in November last year, UNIFIL has documented nearly 7,000 aerial violations and over 2,400 activities north of the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel.
Bucharil added that the situation remains delicate and called for urgent measures to prevent any further escalation.
He emphasized UNIFIL’s readiness to support all parties in upholding Resolution 1701 but cautioned that ongoing violations threaten and undermine progress made toward restoring stability.
The spokesperson noted that with UNIFIL’s backing,the Lebanese army has redeployed at more than 120 permanent positions within southern Lebanon’s border region.
As UNIFIL’s mandate approaches its scheduled conclusion at the end of 2026, Bucharil said its focus will remain on maintaining stability along the Blue Line. The force will continue supporting the Lebanese army’s presence in southern Lebanon while assisting efforts to extend government authority across this sensitive area.
Bucharil stated: “Our current mission will run until December 31, 2026. Following this date, a gradual and orderly withdrawal process is planned over one year. Ultimately, responsibility for security in southern Lebanon is expected to rest solely with the Lebanese government.”
The ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel mediated by the United States and France took effect on November 27, 2024. It ended clashes arising from conflict tied to Gaza but notwithstanding this agreement, israel continues regular incursions into Lebanese territory. Israeli forces maintain their presence at five key points along Lebanon’s border region.
