Iraqi Interior Minister: Iraq’s Special Elections Will Be Conducted Completely “Safe and Smooth

Iraq’s Interior Minister announced that the special parliamentary ​elections are proceeding smoothly, securely, and in an orderly‌ manner, with polling stations open until 6 p.m.

According to the English section‍ of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Aljabal news ​website, Iraq’s Interior Minister Abdulamir ​al-Shammari​ confirmed that ⁤the special parliamentary election process is progressing very smoothly and in an orderly fashion. He‌ emphasized that ⁤polling centers remain fully secure.

The remarks came hours after voting began in the special election and following al-Shammari’s⁤ visit to a polling station in Baghdad​ to cast his ballot.

Al-Shammari ⁢told reporters: “The special voting process is proceeding fluently across Baghdad and all provinces.‍ Personnel are being transferred to polling stations regularly in ‌successive groups under supervision from officers, commanders,⁣ and officials.”

He noted that ‌voting will⁣ continue until 6:00 p.m., encouraging all‌ eligible voters to‍ participate before polls ⁢close.

The Interior Minister stressed that⁢ security conditions around polling centers are ‍stable and⁣ wholly secure. Operations are running according ⁢to plan.

He also highlighted effective coordination among‌ security agencies, officers responsible for protecting the centers, and the election⁤ commission.

This morning marked⁣ the ⁢opening of polling stations for security forces and staff tasked with protection duties during Iraq’s general parliamentary elections scheduled for November 11. The vote includes members of the military, prisoners, and ⁣hospital patients eligible to vote.

The special ⁢elections will conclude at 6 p.m.,‌ maintaining electoral silence ​initiated yesterday morning ahead of the general elections on Tuesday, November 11.
