Herzog Responds to Trump’s Request to Pardon Netanyahu

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Yedioth Ahronoth via Mehr News Agency, the office of Isaac Herzog, President of Israel, responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s request for a pardon of Benjamin Netanyahu by stating: “Herzog holds great respect for Trump and has always praised his unconditional support and prominent role in strengthening Israel’s security. Though, anyone seeking a pardon must formally apply according to proper procedures.”
Earlier today, Isaac Herzog announced he received an official letter from the U.S. president asking him to grant Benjamin Netanyahu a full pardon.
The letterheaded official White House correspondence referred to Netanyahu as a “strong prime minister” whose focus should not be distracted by these matters.
Trump described the legal cases against Netanyahu as “political and unfair,” writng that it is time to pardon Bibi (Netanyahu) and end this legal dispute.
While Trump calls for pardoning Netanyahu over corruption charges, the prime minister also faces prosecution by international judicial bodies for alleged war crimes committed in Gaza.
