Al-Mayadeen: Meeting Between Witekaf and Al-Hayya Canceled
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Al-Mayadeen television quoted Palestinian sources saying the meeting scheduled for Wednesday between Steve Gutman, the US envoy to the Middle East, and Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas leader in Turkey, was canceled.
The cancellation was attributed to pressure from Israel.
Previously,Israeli media outlet Times of Israel reported that Steve Gutman would meet with a delegation of senior Hamas officials lead by khalil al-Hayya in Istanbul on Wednesday to discuss maintaining a ceasefire in Gaza.
Times of Israel cited an anonymous Arab diplomat who described this as Gutman’s second meeting with al-Hayya. before signing the ceasefire on October 10th (Gregorian calendar), Gutman had met with Hamas negotiators alongside Jared Kushner in Egypt-a key factor in finalizing the agreement.
The Israeli newspaper also claimed that Gutman’s objective was to persuade Palestinian resistance leaders to disarm.
