Reason for Former Brazilian President’s Arrest Revealed

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, the Brazilian website Jovem Pan reported that Jair bolsonaro, Brazil’s former president, tried to tamper with his electronic ankle monitor to violate the terms of his house arrest.
Law enforcement agencies say Bolsonaro admitted during questioning that he used a soldering iron in an attempt to unlock the device. The monitor was damaged but immediately sent an alert signal to officers. The ankle bracelet has now been sent for expert examination, and Bolsonaro remains in custody.
Bolsonaro’s lawyer confirmed he was arrested by the country’s federal police on Saturday.
The lawyers had requested on Friday that Bolsonaro be allowed to serve his 27-year sentence under house arrest due to serious health issues.
The 70-year-old Bolsonaro was sentenced in September for leading a failed coup attempt against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva following his defeat in the 2022 election. His appeal was rejected last week.
He led a group plotting assassinations targeting Lula, his vice president, and a Supreme Court judge. Three military officials and one police officer were also imprisoned for thier roles in this conspiracy.
Bolsonaro’s trial provoked anger from then-US President Donald Trump, who responded by imposing a 40% tariff on certain Brazilian goods. However, diplomatic efforts eased tensions significantly, and on Thursday the US announced it had lifted additional tariffs on Brazilian meat and coffee exports.
