Italians Protest Rome’s Support for the Zionist Regime

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Autonomous, a one-day workers’ strike and widespread demonstrations against Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government over its support for Israel led to the cancellation of dozens of flights and disrupted national train services in Italy.
Hundreds protested in Turin and Genoa. Among those marching in Genoa were Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian human rights, and Yanis Varoufakis, former Greek finance minister. Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg also took part in the demonstrations.
Protesters carried placards supporting mohamed Shaheen Ruhani, an Egyptian-born pro-palestinian activist who faces deportation from Italy.
The demonstrators also denounced increased military spending alongside cuts to healthcare, education, and welfare budgets.
Italian labor unions have called for protests to continue with further rallies planned for Saturday.
The strike caused at least 27 flight cancellations at Milan Malpensa Airport and 17 at Bologna Airport. Other affected airports included Milan Linate, Naples, and Venice. The national carrier canceled 26 domestic flights.
Train services were suspended at major stations in Rome, Turin, Milan, and Genoa. In Milan’s Lambrate station-a smaller stop-protests prevented trains from stopping altogether. Urban transport across Rome and several other cities also experienced disruptions.
In Venice, activists blocked offices of Italy’s defense firm Leonardo but were dispersed by police.
