Postwar Borders at the Heart of Intense US-Ukraine Talks

An American media outlet identified the establishment of new borders between Ukraine and ⁢Russia as the central focus of recent talks between Kyiv and Washington.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency,‍ citing Mehr News Agency, the American news site ⁣Axios reported that discussions ‍between US and Ukrainian delegations‍ on Sunday primarily⁤ centered on defining the current line of control ⁤between Ukraine and Russia ‍as part of a potential peace agreement. Two Ukrainian officials told‌ Axios ‍that ‍the five-hour meeting was “tough,”⁢ “intense,” but overall constructive.

Axios highlighted that demarcating territorial control between Russia and Ukraine was the key topic ⁣at ‍the Miami meeting. The⁣ report noted that ‌at its conclusion, Omurov held a private session with Witkoff before updating ukrainian President⁢ Volodymyr Zelensky on the talks via phone.

The Western ‍outlet added that Zelensky ⁣wished to⁢ discuss border issues directly with former President Trump, but Trump stated‌ he would ‌not meet with Zelensky or vladimir Putin until⁤ an agreement reached its final stages.

The US delegation met with ‌their⁣ Ukrainian counterparts in ‌Miami on Sunday, hoping to make progress on borders so Witkoff could relay results during his ‌upcoming meeting with Putin.

On his flight back from Florida to Washington, Trump told reporters he⁤ views an agreement as “highly likely.”

Omurov also wrote on Telegram: “We have made significant progress toward achieving⁢ a just peace and bringing both sides closer together.”

Omurov is scheduled to meet Zelensky in Paris on Monday to provide ⁣a more detailed report. Meanwhile, Witkoff ‌will travel⁤ to Moscow Monday ahead of his Tuesday meeting with Putin.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, set to meet Steve Witkoff-the special envoy for the US president-on Tuesday, has emphasized Moscow will only⁣ halt ‍hostilities after gaining full control ‌over Donbas. The US has urged Kyiv to concede parts of this region for an agreement-a politically sensitive ‍and difficult‌ matter for Ukraine’s government.
