Journalist Organizations Claim Israeli Actions Against French Journalists May Constitute War Crimes

The International Federation of Journalists and the National Union of Journalists of France have stated that Israel’s actions against French journalists could constitute war crimes. Lawyers assert Israel deliberately obstructs and endangers French journalists covering Palestinian territories, violating international law.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the International Federation of Journalists and the National Union of Journalists of France have jointly declared that Israel’s actions against French journalists may constitute “war crimes,” potentially falling under the jurisdiction of the Paris anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office.

Lawyers involved in the case emphasized that Israel intentionally and sometimes violently prevents French journalists from working in the Palestinian territories, endangering their safety in the West Bank. They argue that such actions represent a clear violation of international laws and qualify as war crimes.

Concurrently, another French journalist reported direct harassment by Israeli settlers while covering events in the occupied territories.

Reporters Without Borders reports that since the start of Israel’s attacks on Gaza on October 7, 2023, over 210 journalists have been killed by occupation forces.

Israel has also restricted independent access to Gaza for foreign journalists, allowing only a limited number to enter under military supervision.

France has previously seen multiple complaints related to the Gaza conflict, including those against French-Israeli soldiers within elite Israeli army units, the arms company Euro Lynx, and certain French-Israeli settlers accused of participating in occupation-related crimes.

The Paris anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has even initiated investigations into the deaths of two French children in the Israeli bombardment of Gaza.
