EU’s Kallas: Russia Not Seeking Peace in Ukraine

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, made her remarks at a two-day summit of the 27 EU member states in Brussels, reiterating the EU’s support for Ukraine.
“A long-term budget for Ukraine sends a strong message to Russia about our support,” Kallas stated, adding, “Russia is not looking for peace and is celebrating Christmas with the issue of Ukraine.”
The EU foreign policy chief argued that opponents are pressuring Moscow to compromise, and that the EU must demonstrate strength. Kallas suggested that Russia could end sanctions by stopping the war.
Discussing financial options, Kallas noted that providing loans to compensate Ukraine using frozen Russian assets is a likely course of action, addressing Belgian concerns about using these assets.
Kallas claimed there has been no genuine desire from the Russian side to engage in serious peace discussions or agree to a ceasefire during the Christmas holidays.
