Venezuela National Assembly President Condemns U.S. Seizure of Oil Tankers as ‘Piracy’

Venezuela’s National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez has accused the U.S. of engaging in ‘colonial-era piracy’ after American forces seized several oil tankers off Venezuela’s coast, with lawmakers unanimously backing a bill to safeguard maritime freedom.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Venezuela‘s National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez has likened the recent U.S. seizure of multiple oil tankers near Venezuelan waters to ‘maritime piracy reminiscent of the colonial era.’ Rodríguez stated that Caracas is facing a scenario akin to historical plunder tactics.

The Venezuelan leader emphasized that the National Assembly has unanimously approved a bill aimed at guaranteeing freedom of navigation and trade while countering maritime theft and blockades. The legislative move comes in direct opposition to what Rodríguez described as unlawful U.S. interference in Venezuela’s sovereign affairs.
