Iraqi Prime Minister Announces Efforts to Facilitate Iran-US Bilateral Meeting in Baghdad

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani revealed that Iraq is working to arrange a bilateral meeting between Iran and the US in Baghdad to resume negotiations, emphasizing Baghdad’s role in reducing regional tensions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stated that Iraq is making efforts to facilitate a bilateral meeting between Iran and the United States in Baghdad to restart diplomatic talks. He highlighted Baghdad’s previous success in mediating tensions and noted that neither side opposes resuming dialogue despite their specific considerations.

Al-Sudani emphasized that Iraq’s relations with Iran remain positive at official, political, and public levels, and Baghdad aims to leverage this relationship to revive Iran-US negotiations. He also clarified that Iran’s support for Iraq in counterterrorism and political processes does not constitute interference in internal affairs.

The Prime Minister further disclosed that Iraq has a strategic framework agreement with the US, enabling broad cooperation beyond security and military matters. Additionally, he mentioned Iraq’s regional and economic efforts, including plans to connect Syria to development pathways to enhance economic opportunities and stability. Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s consistent stance toward Lebanon, allocating $20 million for reconstruction following Israeli aggression.

He added that Iraq’s relations with regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, are based on a unified and stable criterion.
