Afghanistan Seeks Active Participation in Shanghai Cooperation Organization

Afghanistan’s ambassador to Moscow has called for the country’s active involvement in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, emphasizing its importance as an observer member.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Afghanistan‘s ambassador to Moscow, Gul Hasan, stated in an interview with TASS news agency that Afghanistan, as an observer member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), considers active participation in the organization essential.

In his first interview as the head of Afghanistan’s diplomatic mission in Moscow, Hasan added that Afghanistan should attend the organization’s meetings in line with its status.

The ambassador also noted that due to the efforts of Moscow and Beijing, most SCO member states have concluded that restoring Afghanistan’s active participation in the organization’s activities is a practical and feasible step.

He expressed hope that Afghanistan would participate in the SCO’s upcoming meetings.

This comes as international and regional institutions continue to call for elections and the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan, linking the resumption of cooperation with Kabul to changes in the Taliban’s domestic and foreign policies.
