UN Spokesperson Calls for More Gaza Crossings to Be Opened Beyond Rafah

The UN’s humanitarian affairs spokesperson welcomed the limited reopening of the Rafah crossing but stressed that additional access points must be opened to deliver sufficient aid to Gaza.
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), stated in an interview with Turkey’s Anadolu Agency that while the limited reopening of the Rafah crossing is a positive step, other closed crossings must also be opened to ensure effective delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Laerke emphasized that no aid trucks from Egypt have been observed entering Gaza so far. The UN official stressed that a significant increase in aid volume is required to create real change in the humanitarian situation. OCHA is currently collecting detailed data on aid entry and movement into Gaza but noted the UN has no direct control over the process.
