Macron Warns US Seeks EU Collapse, Urges Europe Not to Be Deceived by Surface Tensions

French President Emmanuel Macron cautioned European leaders that apparent de-escalation in tensions with Washington should not obscure the underlying hostility from the Trump administration, asserting that the United States is actively working towards the dissolution of the European Union. Macron stressed the need for fundamental economic restructuring to bolster European resilience against both US and Chinese pressure.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a stark warning that the current period of calm should not be misinterpreted as a permanent shift in American policy, maintaining that the Trump administration harbors overtly hostile intentions aimed at fracturing the European Union.

Speaking to major European outlets including the Financial Times and Le Monde, President Macron urged fellow EU leaders to initiate necessary structural changes aimed at reinforcing economic sovereignty in the face of pressure exerted by both Washington and Beijing. He emphatically stated that the temporary pause in threats from the United States toward its European allies does not signal a change in core US posture.

Macron labeled the Trump administration as “explicitly anti-European” and asserted its ultimate goal is the “disintegration” of the bloc. The French President cautioned against a false sense of security regarding disputes over issues like Greenland, technology, and trade. He specifically called on Europe to increase strategic investment across critical sectors.

The French leader described the “Greenland moment” as a critical wake-up call, demanding that Europe address long-delayed economic reforms to strengthen the bloc’s global standing. “We are currently in a phase where we have the Greenland moment, threats and intimidation occurred, and suddenly Washington backed down, and we believe the matter is closed—but do not believe that for one second,” Macron stated. He added that Europe must avoid mistaking the superficial easing of tensions over Greenland, trade, and technology for a sustainable shift in Washington’s strategy, noting that threats against pharmaceuticals and digital technology persist daily.

Regarding engagement strategies with US President Donald Trump, Macron suggested that capitulation or immediate pursuit of agreement is counterproductive following an overt act of aggression. “I think we have been trying this strategy for months. This strategy does not work,” he remarked.

The President also anticipated future punitive measures from the United States, specifically warning that the US will likely retaliate over forthcoming EU regulations aimed at controlling major technology firms through the Digital Services Act. “The United States will certainly attack us in the coming months because of digital regulation,” he predicted, adding that Spain and France could also face consequences over proposed restrictions on social media use for minors.

Macron concluded by emphasizing that European assertions regarding the protection of children’s welfare—stating that the minds and emotions of their children must not be exploited commercially by large American or Chinese platforms—is an assertion of sovereignty and the mark of a strong Europe.
