Russia Denounces Energy Sanctions on Cuba as Genocide

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia, has described the energy sanctions against Havana as a manifestation of genocide targeting the Cuban populace. She made these remarks during a meeting with the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs in Moscow.
Matviyenko emphasized that Russia is closely monitoring developments in Cuba, viewing the island nation as a strategic partner. Her statement comes at a time when Cuba’s energy situation has become increasingly precarious, particularly following the reported detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the U.S. military and the subsequent disruption of oil exports from Venezuela to Havana.
It is pertinent to note that the United States, on January 29, had paved the way for imposing tariffs on goods from countries supplying oil to Cuba through the signing of an executive order.
