Le Monde: Iran’s Wars Strengthened Its Internal Cohesion, Undermining US Influence

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the French newspaper Le Monde has reported that the war initiated by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran has reinforced the country’s internal cohesion and the resilience of its political and security frameworks. Donald Trump had believed he could overthrow the Iranian system, but the war he waged in coordination with the Zionist regime has instead contributed to strengthening the centers of power within Iran, especially its military and security apparatus.
The report notes that the Iran-Iraq War was a significant factor in solidifying the foundations of the nascent Islamic Republic of Iran. In the years following the revolution, this war allowed Iran to enhance its internal unity and mobilize large segments of society around a comprehensive national and revolutionary ideal. This analysis can be applied to the recent conflict between the Zionist regime and the United States against Iran, which commenced on February 28 and concluded with a fragile ceasefire on April 8. While many, including Donald Trump, anticipated that this escalation of tensions would weaken or even dismantle the Islamic Republic, the outcomes have been entirely contrary.
Furthermore, the report highlights the leverage of the Strait of Hormuz. By demonstrating its capability to manage this vital waterway using relatively limited means such as drones, mines, and maritime surveillance, Iran has achieved a degree of strategic confidence despite sanctions. The United States, despite its advanced military assets, has thus far been unable to compel Tehran to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz has repositioned Iran at the heart of regional strategic calculations. Amidst current tensions, several Arab states in the Persian Gulf, which rely on the Strait of Hormuz for the export of their hydrocarbon resources, have been compelled to adapt to Iran’s influence and engage in negotiations with the country. Talks between Oman and Iran reflect this new reality. According to repeated warnings from the White House and the U.S. Treasury Department directed at Muscat, Washington is clearly concerned about a potential form of cooperation between the two sides regarding transit fees within the Strait.
