Hamas Condemns Death of Palestinian Prisoner in Israeli Custody

Hamas has condemned the death of Palestinian prisoner Emad Rageh Mustafa Sarhan, 48, in Israel’s Gilboa Prison after more than 24 years of captivity. The group labeled the incident a ‘new crime’ as part of an ongoing ‘gradual execution’ of prisoners.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hamas has offered condolences for the martyrdom of Palestinian prisoner Emad Rageh Mustafa Sarhan, a 48-year-old resident of occupied Haifa. Sarhan died in Israel’s Gilboa Prison after more than two decades of incarceration.

In a statement, Hamas asserted that the death of this Palestinian prisoner represents a fresh atrocity, adding to a history of gradual execution of detainees through deliberate medical neglect and torture targeting both male and female Palestinian prisoners.

The movement issued a warning regarding the escalating measures implemented by the Israeli prison authorities against detainees. It stated that denying prisoners medical treatment and holding them in harsh conditions are integral to an organized policy aimed at breaking their will, tormenting them, and ultimately causing their physical demise.

Hamas underscored that these criminal policies will never succeed in breaking the resolve of the resilient Palestinian prisoners.

The group further assigned full responsibility to the Israeli regime, its extremist cabinet, and the Israeli prison service for the lives of Palestinian prisoners and the repercussions of these ongoing violations. These transgressions critically endanger the lives of hundreds of sick and injured detainees.

Hamas concluded by calling on the Palestinian people to intensify their support activities for the prisoners and to keep their cause alive in all arenas.

The movement also urged the international community and human rights institutions to exert pressure on the Israeli regime to halt the increasing violations against Palestinian prisoners.
