Lebanese President Aoun Welcomes Formation of New International Coalition

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has welcomed a proposal by French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni concerning efforts to form an international coalition for the post-UNIFIL operational framework in Lebanon. This initiative was reported by Al-Naseh news agency, citing Mehr News Agency.
In a statement, President Aoun described the endeavor as a “sincere expression of international commitments to support Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability, and to honor the role of the Lebanese armed forces in maintaining security and extending the government’s authority over all of Lebanon, especially the southern regions.” He lauded the joint emphasis by Italy and France on the necessity of preventing a dangerous vacuum in the period following UNIFIL’s mandate.
Aoun noted that this approach aligns with Lebanon’s consistent view that the Lebanese army is the sole and most effective guarantor of security in the south and the preservation of its sovereignty. He affirmed Lebanon’s openness to any international formula that enhances the capabilities of its armed forces, preserves its territorial integrity, and prevents its territory from becoming a stage for escalating tensions or regional conflicts. President Aoun also announced Lebanon’s readiness to coordinate with its international partners to serve the interests of the Lebanese people and consolidate stability in the region.
