Washington Seeks to Leverage Iraq for Economic-Security Project Bypassing Strait of Hormuz

The United States is reportedly pushing an economic and security project aimed at bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, with reports suggesting Washington intends for Iraq to bear the associated costs. This initiative involves creating a corridor linking the Persian Gulf to regions including the Levant, Turkey, and Egypt.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Firas Al-Yaser, a member of the Political Council of Iraq‘s Al-Nujaba movement, stated that Washington is advancing an economic-security project in the region designed to circumvent the Strait of Hormuz. This initiative involves the establishment of a corridor connecting the Persian Gulf’s coastlines to the Levant, Turkey, and Egypt.

Al-Yaser further elaborated that Brett McGurk, the U.S. Special Envoy for Iraq and the current U.S. Ambassador to Ankara, is spearheading this project. McGurk is reportedly emphasizing Iraq’s leadership within a strategic security alliance intended for integration into a regional framework.

He asserted that this endeavor is founded on an imposed economic partnership that would subjugate Iraq’s energy resources to serve American strategic objectives against its rivals, namely Iran, China, and Russia.

Al-Yaser concluded with a warning, stating that such a pathway would strip Iraq of its geopolitical independence and economic sovereignty. He cautioned that the Iraqi people would be compelled to finance the costs of America’s regional projects and ventures using the wealth and resources belonging to future generations of Iraqis.
