Iraq Fortifies Air Defenses Amid International Coalition Withdrawal

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraq is preparing to assume full control of its national security as international coalition forces are set to complete their withdrawal by September 30. Sabah Al-Numaan, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, emphasized Baghdad’s adherence to the agreed-upon timeline, underscoring Iraq’s sovereignty and independent decision-making capacity. He described September 30 as a significant national day marking a new chapter for the country.

Al-Numaan also detailed the government’s rigorous efforts to regulate arms and ensure they are exclusively under state authority. He highlighted the crucial role armed groups have historically played in supporting security forces and defending the nation, stating that weapons previously used to protect Iraqi territory will not be marginalized. Instead, they will be integrated within the state’s legal framework, with their personnel recognized for their significant sacrifices. This initiative is part of a broader national strategy aimed at strengthening the rule of law and establishing a unified, powerful national security apparatus.

With the departure of the final coalition soldier imminent, Iraqi security forces are deemed capable of safeguarding national sovereignty. Al-Numaan reiterated that consolidating arms under state control is a sovereign and popular demand, to be pursued through internal dialogue without foreign interference. Furthermore, the Ministry of Defense has developed a plan to enhance air defense capabilities, with the first systems slated for delivery soon.
