Canadian Prime Minister Slams U.S. Democracy as ‘Insulting’
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has characterized American democracy as “insulting.” This strong statement comes in reaction to what Carney termed “insulting behavior” by U.S. officials when asked about remarks made by U.S. cabinet ministers towards the Canadian military. Carney asserted that such actions are unbecoming of their positions.
The Canadian Prime Minister further elaborated, stating that meaningful dialogue between the two nations can only occur “when Americans stop making memes, making insinuations, and pretending to be tough, and adopt a serious approach to conducting discussions between the two countries.” He added that this kind of conduct is not constructive, but “that’s how their democracy is.”
This criticism follows recent tensions, including President Donald Trump’s executive order to rename Lake Ontario to “America Lake” within U.S. federal geographic systems and databases. Prime Minister Carney had previously emphasized the importance of preserving the historic name of the lake, noting that “Lake Ontario” predates the formation of Canada and even American independence.
The renaming decision coincides with escalating trade disputes between Washington and Ottawa. President Trump has reignited trade warfare with Canada, imposing a 50% tariff on certain Canadian goods and continuing to threaten further actions after bilateral negotiations failed.
