US Expands Intelligence and Military Operations in Strategic Somali Region

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the American website Drip Site News, quoting five security officials in Puntland, a self-governing region in northeastern Somalia, reported that the United States intends to expand the CIA’s intelligence operations in the area. The US also seeks to transform Bosaso Airport into a military base for conducting airstrikes and surveillance.

Based on the report, American facilities at Bosaso Airport are being utilized as an intelligence hub and coordination center between Puntland forces and the US base in Djibouti. Upon completion, these facilities will be employed for direct aerial operations.

Elements stationed in Puntland announced on August 2nd an agreement with the United States to broaden the American military presence along the Somali coast, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. This development occurs while legal disputes between the region and the federal government in Mogadishu persist regarding the signing of international agreements.

The Puntland region holds a significant strategic position in the Gulf of Aden, which is the driving factor behind the United States’ efforts to expand its presence in this vital area.
