China Rejects US Sanctions Over Russia and Iran Cooperation

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, China‘s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded on Thursday to a legislative proposal for American sanctions against Russia and Iran. The ministry stated that Beijing’s cooperation with other nations should not be subject to interference from third parties, emphasizing that no external entity has the right to meddle in China’s international partnerships.

Guo Jiaqun, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on the U.S. sanctions initiative, affirming that China consistently engages in normal trade and economic cooperation with countries worldwide based on principles of equality and mutual benefit. This stance comes as the U.S. House of Representatives passed a comprehensive bill imposing sanctions and trade tariffs on Russia on Wednesday, aiming to increase economic pressure on Moscow. The bill, approved by a vote of 262 to 159, is now en route to the White House for President Donald Trump’s signature.

Furthermore, according to information from the Associated Press, the U.S. legislation grants the President the authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on major purchasers of Russian oil and gas, including China and India. The proposed measures also include sanctions against Russian officials, financial institutions, the energy sector, and Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” of oil tankers. This legislative package, officially titled the “Sanctions on Russia and Iran Act of 2026,” was previously passed with broad bipartisan support in the Senate in August.
