U.S. House of Representatives Approves Sweeping Sanctions and Tariffs Against Russia

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a broad bill imposing sanctions and trade tariffs on Russia on Wednesday, with the stated goal of increasing economic pressure on Moscow. The measure was approved with 262 votes in favor and 159 against, and has been sent to the White House for President Donald Trump’s signature.

Furthermore, according to Associated Press, the bill grants the U.S. President the authority to impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on major purchasers of Russian oil and gas, including China and India. The legislation also includes sanctions targeting Russian officials, financial institutions, the energy sector, and Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” of oil tankers.

The bill, officially named the “Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026” in reference to Senators Lindsey O. Graham, had previously passed the Senate in August with broad bipartisan support. However, some House Democrats have expressed concerns regarding the extensive tariff-imposing powers granted to the President by the legislation.
