Nuremberg Airport Temporarily Closed Due to Potential Emergency Situation

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, German police on Tuesday temporarily closed Nuremberg’s Albrecht Dürer Airport, halting all operations. The closure was initiated due to the possibility of an emergency situation developing on a flight arriving from Greece. A police spokesperson stated that the potential emergency during the flight was raised, but this had not yet been officially confirmed, with investigations ongoing. These security measures were implemented shortly before the scheduled landing of an aircraft that had departed from the Greek island of Corfu. Airport officials confirmed that the plane landed safely. German news agency DPA reported that the aircraft’s pilot had transmitted an emergency code during the flight, prompting German Air Force Eurofighter jets to scramble and escort the plane. This incident occurred on a day when, earlier Tuesday, three airline pilots independently reported the potential sighting of a drone near the airport during takeoff and landing operations. German federal police, in coordination with air traffic control and airport management, commenced a search operation utilizing a police helicopter, but no drone was found. This event led to minor delays for six flights, including two arrivals and four departures. Normal airport operations resumed after the conclusion of the search.
