Pakistan Urges Restraint from US and Iran Amidst Regional Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Pakistan‘s President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday urged the United States and Iran to exercise restraint and uphold their commitments under the ‘Islamabad Accord’ reached last June. The appeal was made as Zardari met with Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.
A statement from the Pakistani Presidency indicated that Zardari encouraged Washington and Tehran to practice restraint in resolving disputes in West Asia, fulfill their obligations within the framework of the Islamabad Accord, and address differences through dialogue and diplomacy. He emphasized the importance of ensuring maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, as well as respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.
The ‘Islamabad Accord’ was signed by Washington and Tehran on June 17, focusing on halting military operations and initiating measures for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping. However, the implementation of this agreement was reportedly halted due to numerous obstructions by the United States prior to the resumption of hostilities last July.
