Putin Affirms Two-State Solution as Sole Path for Palestinian Issue Amidst Regional Developments

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Thursday during the plenary session of the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow that developments in the Persian Gulf should not lead to the neglect of the suffering and problems of the Palestinian people.
He added, “Of course, amidst the developments in the Persian Gulf, we must not forget the problems of Palestine, which continue to afflict its people.”
Putin also expressed that Russia supports the view that the final resolution of the Palestinian issue is only possible through the implementation of the recognized principle of establishing two states; a principle based on the formation of an independent Palestinian state in the Palestinian territories.
Previously, the Russian President had announced Moscow’s readiness to allocate one billion dollars from its frozen assets to the “Peace Council.” This sum is intended for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the resolution of the Palestinian issue. Then-US President Donald Trump had described this proposal as an “interesting idea.”
Putin had also previously emphasized that the resolution of the Middle East crisis is only possible based on the two-state solution endorsed by the United Nations Security Council; a solution that emphasizes the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in the territories occupied since 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
